Nominated for a Canadian Screen Award, The Big Sex Talk is a six part 30-minute docuseries on CBC Gem that investigates the conversations Canadians are having surrounding sex and sexuality. With help from experts, culture vultures, and everyday Canadians, The Big Sex Talk explores the numbers, notions, and thoughts that define sexuality in today’s modern discourse. Through a multi-platform approach that delivered tailored content across digital and traditional channels, The Big Sex Talk provides social context to hot-button topics, and debunk common myths surrounding sex in a Canadian context.
A digital slice of sexy realness
As the Digital Producer for the series, I had a lofty plan for how the content would live across social platforms. With a little convincing, the CBC agreed to an aggressive digital strategy that involved two original web series, myth-busting infographics and series subject profiles all optimized for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook across the CBC, CBC Gem, and CBC Life.

It’s hot: niche digital content
By developing a secondary set of content that was complementary to the main series but optimized for social channels, we were able to engage better with our audience while still increasing discoverability for the series.
Both web series, “Sexplanation” and “Let’s Talk About Sex, Baby” featured series experts, but the conversations were often geared around sex discourse that is specifically happening online. Our digital content also granted us valuable teaching moments and both web series are packed with nuggets of advice, a few history lessons, and some, um, web-only sex tips and tricks.
